Punishment Deck

Post by vaktaeru on Mon Jul 23, 2012 11:51 am

Ok, so i'm working on what i like to call a punishment deck. It's a deck that literally punishes the opponent for everything they do through healing me, damaging them, and rendering powerful cards completely useless (i.e. they activate a spell card: 1000 damage, discard two non-monsters). It's somewhat risky though, because many cards that deal direct damage hurt me too. i need ways to drop the risk, good cards that deal lots of damage, and ways to counter anti S/T strategies. Any suggestions would be nice! (btw i'm not using anything like sparks or hinotama, so forget those)

O.o so you want a burn deck that responds to what the opponent plays? I'm not sure what you're getting at. Give me an example card.

a lot of decks you play against will be perfectly happy to pay for a heavy storm. Just sayin'.

Chain Energy, Toll are options

well you could go with the combo of gift card and Bad reaction to Simochi, just a suggestion. there is also Secret barrel which inflicts damage to your opponent for each card on their field and in their hand. There is also Barrel behind the door which reverses damage at your opponent. Hope these ideas help.

barrel behind the door doesn't really work well considering its only if you take effect damage. No one really plays burn anymore either so it would only be good like 1/20 duels.

Heavy storm this, Heavy storm that. When it first came off the list people were like "oh no! lets not play heavy backrow!" but look at the format now. It's only one card to wipe the s/t zone, one card out of 40. They wont be able to hit all your traps so I wouldnt worry about it.

Blast sphere is a great monster for the theme you're going for. They thought you wee playing defensively, but no... They ran right into your trap :3 haha

I would run 3 Simochi, 3 soul taker, 3 upstart goblin, and 3 Kuribon for the troll factor. Kuribon is just a good defensive monster and when they select him as an atk target with simochi on the field, they have to pay for it.

Magic cylinder is a perfect card for the deck too. Make them pay hard for attacking at you >:3 I would also suggest playing 1 starlight road and maybe siding a 2nd one in for those decks that play a lot of blow-up-the-field type of cards.

Then in general, good cards that burn your opponent for moves they make, play Skull invitation, Fatal Abacus, and Dark Room of Nightmare for the extra damage.

You're right. It's only one card out of 40 and people only have a 15% chance of having it in their opening hand. But it's always good to be ready for 100% of the circumstances, rather than 15%. Setting Starlight Road negates Heavy and punishes your opponent for the audacity to try to destroy your backrow!

And vaktaeru, are you saying you want a deck where it's like "I have an answer to everything" or do you want a deck where it's like "You can try to do things... but every time you do you get hurt"

Thing is, I'd never run a single card just to negate a single card in my opponent's deck. Not only is it a 15% chance for me to have starlight road opening hand, but it's a 15% chance for the opponent to have heavy storm. Also who is to say he uses heavy storm right after I set starlight road? maybe I set starlight and he'll mst/use lyla or breaker. So many factors to take into consideration that make running starlight almost useless. I'd only run it if I knew I was running backrow ALL THE TIME like in a burn deck or if my opponent uses a ton of cards that destroy 2 or more things (more than just the staples dark hole, heavy storm, and mirror force).
